UTPA Wins Two on Road, Rises to 8-1

EDINBURG - Mohsen Husain scored five goals in two road victories, so the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs come home to throw an 8-1 record against Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m. here Sunday.

The Sunday game originally was scheduled on Oct. 19. It was moved up because Coach Moran hopes to schedule more games against teams from Mexico later this month.

The Broncs embellished their record, already the best in the Sun Belt Conference, by winning Wednesday at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, 1-0, and winning Thursday at Schreiner College in Kerrville, 10-1.

Husain, who is from Kuwait City, Kuwait, scored Wednesday's only goal on a direct kick from about 20 yards after a foul. He booted goals Thursday on a dribble, a header and two close-in tries assisted by Ronny Cabrera.

Cabrera collected four assists and two goals in the 10-1 rout. Jorge Cavazos and Alector Cardenas also scored twice. Cardenas added three assists and Jesus Tavarez one.

Cavazos suffered a bruised foot.

"The defense played very well, especially at St. Mary's," Moran said. "Fredy Sanguinetti played all the way at goalie and had eight saves at Schreiner and 12 against St. Mary's. We let them shoot too much but they didn't take too good shot," Moran added.
