FARMVILLE, VA--The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program (6-16) dropped a 77-61 road decision to Longwood (14-10) this Wednesday (Feb. 11) night at Willett Hall in Farmville, VA.
"We had a great effort tonight, but with 26 turnovers in the game, it doesn't give you a chance to win," said head coach Tom Schuberth. "Interesting thing is that we get to see Longwood this Saturday so we can make adjustments and hopefully win at home."
Emmanuel Jones began the night for the Broncs with a dunk from Nathan Hawkins which would lead to an intense first half with one tie and seven lead changes. The Broncs earned their first lead at the 14:17 mark on a layup by Jones. The score would bounce back and forth but would have the Broncs trailing by eight to enter the half.
The Broncs would lose momentum coming out of the half as Longwood extended their lead to double-figures and would give the Broncs their largest deficit of 25 with 1:25 left to play.
The Broncs finished the second half on a 9-0 run with Steven Silva making the final shot of the game on a three-point shot with 26 seconds left to play.
Emmanuel Jones finished the night with a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and one assist.
Nathan Hawkins scored all his 12 points in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, including 4-of-7 from the foul line and finished the night with seven rebounds and one assist and steal.
Silva finished the night with a career-high seven points in two minutes of play on a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range and 1-of-2 from the foul line along with one rebound.
"We have three consecutive games at home and hopefully we can start a three-game win streak," added Schuberth.
The Broncs return to the UTPA Fieldhouse as they face Longwood on Saturday, Feb. 14 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. CT.
