Final Stats

ARLINGTON, TX--The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis program dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 38 Texas Christian University (TCU) this Sunday morning at UT Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas.

The Broncs opened up the match earning the doubles points behind victories at the number two and number three slots. In the number two slot, brothers Brett and Beau Bernstein defeated Zack Nichols and Christopher Price 8-6. In the number three slot, Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving defeated Santiago Centeno and Slah Mbarek 9-7.

In singles play, Aswin Vijayaragavan defeated Marius Cirstea 6-4, 6-4 at the number one slot while teammate Dornauf defeated Paul Chappell 6-2, 6-0 at the number five slot. TCU's Kelubia Mabatah defeated Abdelhamid Riana 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles, while TCU's Price defeated Nirvick Mohinta 8-6 at number four singles.

With both schools at three points each, the match came down to the number two slot that matched UTPA's Brett Bernstein against Mbarek. Bernstein made quick work of Mbarek in the first set defeating him 6-0, Mbarek came back and defeated Bernstein 6-3 in the second set and went on to take the final set 6-3, to clinch the victory for TCU.

"I could not be happier with the effort we put out there. The guys played some tremendous tennis today," said head coach Chris Taylor. "I was especially pleased with the Bernstein brothers' aggressiveness in doubles, and with how Brett kept up that momentum into his singles."

"Winnie is playing some solid tennis right now, it seems every time he steps on the court he finds a way to get better.Marcus isnt hitting the ball as well as he is capable of, but he's working hard and showing a lot of heart and that was the difference today," added Taylor.

The Broncs return to action Monday (Jan. 25) as they head to Dallas to face SMU. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
