BRONCS TO FACE MAVS SATURDAY

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) women's basketball team travels this weekend to Arlington, Texas to take on the Mavericks of UT-Arlington (UTA) Saturday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. (CT).

The Broncs (4-4) have spent the past week on the road, where they lost at the Basketball Travelers Invitational Tournament last weekend, and experienced a setback Wednesday evening at Stephen F. Austin. Prior to their recent road trips, the Broncs tied their best start in program history, 4-0, since the 2003-04 season.

Junior Ce'Monay Newell leads UTPA with 17.5 points per game and is shooting 44 percent from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore Bianca Torre is averaging 15.4 points per game and is shooting 47 percent from three-point range. Adanna Opara is also posting double digits for UTPA, with 10 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 7.4 per game.

The Mavs (2-5) enter Saturday's contest following a home 57-54 loss to the SEC's Arkansas Wednesday. Last week, UTA topped Southeast Missouri, but fell to Arkansas State.

The Mavs are led by Tamara Simmons with 17 points per game, followed by Shalyn Martin with 10 points per game.

Saturday's game marks the seventh time that the Broncs and Mavericks have faced off. The last time the two programs met was January 2, 2004 at UTA.
