Men's Basketball Keeps Scoring in Bunches to Knock Off Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. – One game after scoring 78 points in their first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) win, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball won their second game in a row, 84-61 over the Chicago State University Cougars, who had previously been undefeated in WAC play, on Saturday at Jones Convocation Center.
 
It is the Broncs' (6-14, 2-3 WAC) fourth road win of the season, their highest total since winning six in 2007-08.
 
Three Broncs reached double-figures in scoring, led by junior Shaquille Boga, who scored a career-high 26 points on 5-of-11 shooting while going a career-high 15-for-18 from the line to go with three steals. Graduate student Javorn Farrell scored 20 points on 4-of-9 shooting while 11-of-14 from the line and grabbing four steals. Sophomore Shaquille Hines scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds. Senior Justin Leathers scored nine points with seven rebounds.
 
Quinton Pippen led three Cougars (8-10, 3-1 WAC) in double-figures scoring with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 7-of-14 from behind the arc. Nate Duhon scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Matt Ross scored 11 points with 10 rebounds.
 
Pippen hit a pair of threes and a layup to help the Cougars jump out to a 15-7 lead over the first 5:35.
 
The next time down the court, Farrell hit a three-pointer, and the Broncs started scoring at will. Over the next 24:26, the Broncs outscored the Cougars 57-20 to take a 64-35 lead with 9:59 remaining.
 
Farrell scored 16 of those points, Boga scored 13 and Hines scored 10 as the Broncs went 16-for-32 from the field, including 3-for-8 from behind the arc, plus 20-for-28 from the line. The Broncs held the Cougars to 8-of-27 shooting, including 2-of-11 from behind the arc, and just three attempts, two makes, from the line. The Broncs also forced 15 turnovers while committing just one.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. when they visit defending WAC champion New Mexico State.
