EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team beat the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 81-75 to complete a 3-0 home stand on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
 
Sophomore Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs (4-2) with a career-high 26 points as well as a season-high eight rebounds, a season-high five assists, one block and two steals. Freshman Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Senior Tonisha Walker scored 13 points while hitting her first four shots from behind the arc. Senior T'Ondria Nolen scored 10 points with a career-high nine rebounds and five assists. Senior Brittany Bush grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds (seven offensive) while scoring six points.
 
Shannise Heady led the Eagles (1-2) with 20 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Cha Sweeney scored 15 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jamaica Bucknor scored 12 points with nine rebounds.
 
Goff hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Broncs a 4-0 lead, but the Eagles scored the next nine points to take the lead. Kjartansdóttir nailed a three and then Walker added two more to fuel a 14-2 run as the Broncs went up 18-11 with 12:45 remaining in the first half.
 
The Broncs extended their lead to nine on a Bush layup at 31-22 four and a half minutes later, but the Eagles used a 16-5 run, capped by a Sweeney layup with 2:03 left, to go up 38-36.
 
The Eagles led 59-54 with 11 minutes remaining, but that's when the Broncs made their move. Kjartansdóttir scored 11 points while hitting a pair of threes, two layups and one free throw to power a 22-8 run as the Broncs went up 76-67 with 3:21 remaining. The Broncs were 7-for-15 from the field during the run while the Eagles were 1-for-8.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they visit No. 10 Texas in a game that will be televised on Longhorn Network.
