LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis is set to face their first Western Athletic Conference opponent on Friday when they face the Grand Canyon Antelopes at 2 p.m. at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
This is the fourth match of 10 straight matches away from the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Last Time OutThe Broncs defeated the Western New Mexico Mustangs 4-0 on Thursday.
The Broncs (6-7) took control of the match as they grabbed the doubles point from the Mustangs (5-10). The team of
Reegan Greenwood and
Katia Stavroulaki defeated the team of Ganna Tiurina and Annica Betz 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Lison Le Biavant and
Mariana Ranzahuer then beat Ashley Newell and Diamon Morrill 8-4 at No 2 doubles to secure the point.
In singles, the Broncs won three-straight singles matches to clinch the match and its sixth win of the season. Stavroulaki posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tiurina at No. 1 singles as she improved her singles record to 8-5. Greenwood added a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Newell at No. 3 singles. It was Greenwood's sixth straight win and her team-high ninth singles victory of the spring.
Ranzahuer closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tiffany Newell at No. 6 singles. The rest of the singles matches were stopped once the match was clinched.
Scouting the AntelopesThe Antelopes enter Friday's match with a 4-6 record after defeating Marquette University on March 12. They are currently riding a two-match win streak while also beating Valparaiso on March 3.
Priscilla Annoual leads Grand Canyon with a 6-3 singles record while playing all her matches at the No. 1 spot and she is currently on a three-match win streak. Alexandra Petrzalkova is second on the team with a 5-5 singles record while playing all her matches at the No. 4 spot.
In doubles, the Antelopes are 16-12 overall. Lana Rinaldi and Lana Macukat has posted the best doubles record thus far with a 6-3 mark, while playing all their matches at the No. 3 spots. Annoual and Tatum Prudhomme have posted a 5-5 record at the No. 1 spot while Petrzalkova and Silvia Tumova have posted a 5-4 record at the No. 2 spot.
The SeriesThe Broncs are 0-1 all-time against the Antelopes. They faced each other for the first time last season as the Antelopes came away with a 5-2 victory over the Broncs at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
GlobetrottersThe Broncs currently have nine student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries including Colombia, England, France, Greece, Mexico and the United States.
