BEAUMONT –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team dropped its Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match 0-7 to the Abilene Christian (ACU) Wildcats on Saturday at Lamar's Thompson Family Tennis Center.
UTRGV (4-13, 1-3 WAC) trailed ACU (7-10, 3-0 WAC) 0-1 after dropping the doubles point. No. 1 duo of juniors
Misha Kvantaliani and
George Hutchings won its match 7-5, turning the No. 2 match into the decider. The match came down to a tiebreaker won by the Wildcats 7-1.
The Wildcats secured the victory with singles wins in the fifth, first and fourth flights, then extended their lead to 5-0 with a win at No. 3.

Carlo Izurieta and junior
Te Kani Williams both played tightly contested matches. Izurieta fell 5-7 in the first set of his No. 2 match, then rallied to push the second set to a tiebreaker at 6-6. ACU's Dario Kmet held on to take the tiebreaker 7-4 and claim the match.
Williams had to fight in the No. 6 flight, going to a tiebreaker in the first set which he held on to win 7-6 (7-2). He dropped the second 2-6 to Oswaldo Cano Sosa. The third set 10-point tiebreaker was won 10-5 by Cano Sosa.
UTRGV will take on No. 10 Texas in Austin on Sunday, April 3 at 4:30 p.m.
